This comes as a bit of a surprise.
The Mets have optioned replacement starter Jose Butto to Triple-A Syracuse.
The expectation was that Butto would start one of the games in the Mets' doubleheader with the Atlanta Braves on Monday. Instead, the starters will be Denyi Reyes (Game 1) and Tylor Megill (Game 2).
Butto has been solid in two starts for the Mets this season, posting a 2.79 ERA across 9.2 innings.
The Mets' rotation has certainly endured their fair share of injuries throughout the early part of the regular season. Justin Verlander (teres major strain), Carlos Carrasco (elbow) and Jose Quintana (rib surgery) are all on the IL, while Max Scherzer is serving a 10-game suspension for usage of illegal substances.
The good news is that Verlander is coming off the IL this week and Scherzer's suspension will be up after the Braves series, so the Mets' starting staff will have their two aces back.
